Urgent Fundraising – Yip Jian Kai (Cochlear Implant)

Description
“I started wearing hearing aids when I was four and have used three sets so far. The doctor suggested me to undergo cochlear implant surgery to improve my condition. I also hope that the public will lend me a hand.”
Yip Jian Kai from Ampang, Selangor, suffered hearing loss due to a fever during childhood. After multiple tests, the doctor confirmed that one of his ears had 70% hearing while the other had very little hearing. The doctor recommended that he wear hearing aids so that he could study, live, and grow better.
However, he discovered that his hearing ability in his right ear had deteriorated recently. After examination, the doctor confirmed that he was almost deaf. The doctor suggested he go for cochlear implant surgery. He could not afford the substantial medical expenses, so he sought help for RM70,800.
【Although he has a hearing impairment, Jian Kai has never given up on himself. Instead, he was determined and worked hard to complete his primary and secondary studies, and also successfully graduated from college】
Jian Kai was born healthy but had a high fever when he was one year old. After recovering from the fever, he grew up normally. When Jian Kai was four, the kindergarten teacher told his parents that Jian Kai did not respond when the teacher talked to him. He would just smile, so the teacher suggested his parents bring him for a hearing test.
After various tests, the doctor told them that the fever at his young age might be the cause of his hearing loss and recommended that he wear hearing aids in both ears. During school, he once rejected wearing hearing aids as his classmates ridiculed him for wearing them.
However, he had to face the consequences of not wearing hearing aids. His hearing deteriorated further, causing him to be unable to keep up with the learning progress in class. He also transferred from a National-Type Chinese School (Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina) to a National School (Sekolah Kebangsaan). When he started wearing hearing aids again, his mother also sent him for speech therapy, but he was forced to stop the sessions due to financial difficulties.
He later completed his primary and secondary courses and passed the examinations. To minimise his interactions with others and his interest in computers, his parents supported him in finishing college, majoring in information technology.
Jian Kai has replaced two pairs of hearing aids in the past and is currently wearing the third pair, which he has been using for nearly seven years. During a recent follow-up visit, the doctor found that his right ear was almost deaf, but his left ear still had 70% hearing ability and could rely on a hearing aid. Therefore, the doctor recommended a cochlear implant surgery on the right ear. He and his family can only afford some amount, and there is still a shortfall of RM70,800 in surgical expenses. Hence, he approaches One Hope Charity for assistance.
The patient is a technician with a salary of RM3,500. His 73-year-old father is a retiree, and his 67-year-old mother is a part-time tour guide. His siblings have their own financial commitments and can only provide him with a little support.
After reviewing the case following a home visit, One Hope Charity agreed to assist Yip Jian Kai in raising his medical expenses. To kickstart the campaign, RM5,000 will be allocated from "Emergency Medical and Contingency Reserved Fund".
