Description

Noah Mickael, an indigenous baby from East Malaysia, currently living in George Town, Penang, is a cheerful little boy with chubby cheeks and a bright, sunshine-like smile. But behind his adorable appearance lies an untold struggle—he has been diagnosed with congenital hearing loss. Unlike other children, he cannot clearly hear the loving voices of his parents or the sounds of the world around him.

Hearing is crucial for language development, and at 11 months old, Noah is at the critical stage of learning to speak. However, due to his hearing impairment, he has yet to say "Papa" or "Mama." Doctors have recommended that he undergo cochlear implant surgery around the age of one. Time is of the essence—missing this golden intervention period could result in delayed language development.

The staggering RM108,125 surgery cost has left his parents feeling helpless. They are now reaching out to the public, hoping for kind-hearted individuals to lend a helping hand. Your generosity can give baby Noah the precious gift of hearing and put him on the path to a healthy, fulfilling life.

【Hearing Aids Are Ineffective—Without Surgery at This Stage, Baby’s Language Development and Growth Will Be Affected】

Noah Mickael, now 11 months old, is the firstborn child of a loving couple from Sabah’s Kadazan tribe and Sarawak’s Iban tribe. At birth, he failed his newborn hearing screening. After undergoing approximately five tests, he was diagnosed with congenital hearing loss at six months old. Following the doctor's advice, his parents personally funded a pair of hearing aids for both ears and regularly took him to hospital check-ups.

However, after three months of using the hearing aids, doctors found that they provided little to no benefit for him. Since Noah is in a crucial stage for language development, he underwent an MRI scan and an inner ear CT scan on December 19 last year. The results confirmed that his inner ear structure is normal. After evaluation by audiologists, he was deemed eligible for a cochlear implant and was scheduled for surgery around his first birthday to ensure he does not miss this critical period for language acquisition. Additionally, he began speech therapy in December last year.

Noah’s father, Oswald bin Juin (41), is an operations specialist at an electronics company, while his mother, Wallensia Meena Anak Peter (25), is a nurse. They dream of their son being able to hear and learn like other children and are now appealing for public support to help their baby.

After a home visit and assessment, One Hope Charity has decided to launch a fundraiser to collect the necessary medical funds for Noah Mickael. To kickstart the campaign, RM5,000 will be allocated from "Emergency Medical and Contingency Reserved Fund".
