Description

"Without surgery, my spine will continue to bend, making it harder to breathe and even pressing against my internal organs, endangering my life. I long to live a normal life—please, I sincerely ask for your help to get through this!"

Nitya A/P Naganathan, a 23-year-old woman from Butterworth, Penang, was diagnosed with 45-degree scoliosis at the age of 14 after experiencing severe back pain that prevented her from carrying her school bag. Although she attempted physiotherapy to slow the progression of her condition, the treatment was ineffective. Doctors recommended spinal correction surgery at the time, but due to financial constraints, she was unable to proceed with it.

Years have passed, and Nitya is now pursuing higher education. However, her condition has worsened to a 53-degree spinal curvature, causing intense back pain and breathing difficulties. Realizing the severity of her situation, she sought medical advice again, and doctors strongly recommended immediate surgery to prevent further deterioration, which could become life-threatening.

She is now urgently seeking RM58,000 to undergo this crucial surgery. With your support, she can regain her health, stand tall again, and have a chance at a normal and fulfilling future.

Struggling with Severe Pain and Shortness of Breath—Nitya Urgently Needs Surgery to Relieve Her Suffering

Nitya now experiences shortness of breath when climbing stairs and intense spinal pain when lifting heavy objects. She hopes to undergo surgery as soon as possible to free herself from this constant pain and discomfort

At the age of 14, after being diagnosed with scoliosis, Nitya’s family took her to a nearby clinic for physiotherapy. However, after one year of treatment without improvement, she tried traditional Chinese massage therapy upon a friend’s recommendation to relieve her pain. Unfortunately, after two years of treatment, her condition did not improve, leading her to discontinue therapy.

As the COVID-19 pandemic struck and with Nitya focusing on her education, her spinal treatment was put on hold. In 2022, she was admitted to university to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics, relying on government financial aid to continue her studies. She is expected to graduate in 2026.

In February last year, while studying, she suddenly fainted and was rushed to the university's medical center. The initial check-up did not reveal any abnormalities, but when she informed the doctor about her scoliosis, an X-ray examination was conducted. The results showed severe spinal curvature, and the doctor recommended wearing a spinal brace while also advising her to seek further consultation with a specialist outside the university.

With no financial means to proceed, Nitya learned about ONE HOPE CHARITY, which had previously assisted scoliosis patients. She reached out for help, and under One Hope Charity’s arrangement, she underwent medical assessments and consultations, after which doctors strongly recommended corrective spinal surgery.

Nitya’s father, Naganathan (61), works as a driver with a monthly salary of RM1,700, while her mother, Tukadevi (55), is a housewife who occasionally sells flowers for Hindu prayers. The couple has three children, with Nitya being the youngest. Her two elder sisters work as a clerk and are currently unemployed.

The family can only afford RM5,000 for her surgery, but the remaining amount is beyond their financial means.

After conducting a home visit and financial review, ONE HOPE CHARITY has decided to initiate a fundraising campaign to help Nitya secure the necessary medical expenses. Her family has entrusted the entire fundraising process to ONE HOPE CHARITY, which will also manage all donations received.
