Description

"The diagnosis of leukemia makes me feel very depressed, but in order to survive, I need to receive treatment. Now my sister's bone marrow is a match and she is willing to be a donor. For the sake of my family, I ask the public to help me overcome this difficulty."

Ng Kah Eng, a 56-year-old excavator driver from Tapah, Perak, sought medical treatment for asthma at the beginning of the year. Unexpectedly, he was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia after examination. In addition to the pain from the treatment, Kah Eng also suffered from mental and psychological stress.

He had exhausted his savings and pension for early stage chemotherapy, but the doctor recommended that he undergo a bone marrow transplant. His younger sister’s bone marrow was matched and suitable for transplant, but he could only afford RM20,000, and he sought help for the remaining of RM80,000.

【Suffering from leukemia shocked him, and the subsequent treatment and the need to be isolated in the ward for a month after the transplant made him depressed. After seeing a psychiatrist, he gradually relieved and was fully prepared to receive a bone marrow transplant】

The patient is single, has no history of high blood pressure or diabetes, and has only slightly higher cholesterol level. He has always been in the habit of running and hiking. He has also quit smoking for more than 10 years and leads a healthy lifestyle. In January this year, he suddenly felt out of breath, so he went to the clinic for a blood test. The blood test found that the index was abnormal, and he was referred to the hospital for detailed testing. The doctor confirmed that he had acute myeloid leukemia (AML) after taking a bone marrow test.

The news shocked his family and made him unable to accept the fact. He was depressed. The doctor recommended two courses of chemotherapy. In the past, he relied on a small amount of insurance compensation, EPF, and assistance from his siblings to cover each course of chemotherapy.

In February this year, the patient's liver index was abnormal and he was forced to stop chemotherapy. After trying various medications, his liver condition improved. He continued two courses of chemotherapy until June this year.

Now the doctor recommended a bone marrow transplant. After testing, his 53-year-old sister's bone marrow was matched and suitable for donation. However, the cost was as high as RM100,000. He could only afford RM20,000, so he asked for help for the shortfall of RM80,000 in medical expenses.

After reviewing the case following a home visit, One Hope Charity decided to raise the required RM80,000 for him and will be fully responsible for the fundraising. All donations will be received by One Hope Charity. In addition, One Hope Charity will also allocate RM10,000 from the "Emergency Medical Reserve Fund" for the case.
