Urgent Fundraising – Lim Chee Keong (Myelofibrosis)

Description

"No amount of money matters if you don’t have your health. My child is still young, so I must get treated before the condition progresses to Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML); otherwise, things will become even more complicated."

Lim Chee Keong was previously a branch manager at a factory, but after the company shut down in 2022, he went to Singapore in search of new work, temporarily taking on odd jobs installing machinery. In March this year, he was offered a job as a driver by a company in Singapore. However, he was required to complete a medical check-up before officially joining.

During the check-up, the doctor noticed his abdomen was unusually firm. An ultrasound revealed that his spleen was significantly enlarged—approximately 21cm in length (normal range: around 11–13cm). Additionally, the medical report showed his hemoglobin level was only 6.9. The doctor advised him to return to Malaysia for further evaluation and treatment.

In March, he was diagnosed with myelofibrosis. Since then, he has had to visit the hospital every three weeks for follow-ups and blood transfusions. However, these treatments only address the symptoms. A bone marrow transplant is the only potential cure. To reduce the risk of complications from repeated transfusions and to avoid undergoing a transplant at an older, riskier age, doctors recommended he proceed with the transplant as soon as possible.

Due to his need for regular transfusions, Lim is currently unable to work. His family now relies solely on his wife, who is 50 years old and works as an administrative staff member at a printing company. The couple has a 9-year-old son. After being diagnosed, Lim once considered giving up treatment. But thinking of his wife and child who still need him, he decided to fight on, hoping for a full recovery so he can return to work and support his family.

However, the cost of the bone marrow transplant is RM200,000—far beyond what the couple can afford. They are now appealing to the public for help.

After reviewing his case, our organization has decided to launch a fundraising campaign to help cover the cost of his surgery. We will also allocate RM10,000 from our Emergency Medical & Contingency Reserve Fund.
