Urgent Fundraising – Jackie Wee Guan Seng (Lung Adenocarcinoma Metastatic)
Description
“When the doctor first told me I had only three months to live, I counted down my days in despair. But when three months passed and I was still alive, I realized miracles do exist. From then on, I actively sought treatment and fought to survive. My child was just born when I was diagnosed, and for their sake, I’ve pushed myself even harder to live…”
Jackie Wee Guan Seng, a 44-year-old man from Jelutong, Penang, began experiencing persistent coughing in 2015. After ruling out bacterial infections and tuberculosis, he was diagnosed with Lung Adenocarcinoma Metastatic. Since then, he has been actively seeking medical treatment.
With a strong will to live, he has undergone various treatments, and his cancer cells are now under control. Doctors have recommended targeted therapy as the next step, but he urgently needs RM150,000 to proceed with the treatment.
【The upcoming six cycles of targeted therapy, along with additional tests and examinations, have placed a severe financial strain on him, leaving him struggling to make ends meet】
In late 2015, 44-year-old Jackie Wee Guan Seng began experiencing persistent coughing. Despite visiting several clinics, his condition did not improve. One day, he felt so unwell that he nearly fainted and decided to seek treatment at a hospital. Tests revealed fluid buildup in his lungs, with three potential causes: bacterial infection, tuberculosis, or cancer.
Doctors drained the fluid from his lungs and, following a two-week hospital stay and a biopsy, diagnosed him with Stage 4 Lung Adenocarcinoma. He was given a prognosis of only three months to live. The shocking news left him devastated, unable to eat or think of anything else, counting down his remaining days. However, on the 101st day, he realized he was still alive. This unexpected turn reignited his determination to fight, and doctors told him there was a 10% chance of a miracle, giving him newfound hope.
Since then, Jackie has actively pursued treatment, undergoing numerous rounds of chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and immunotherapy. Unfortunately, the cancer later metastasized to the lymph nodes in his neck, causing the formation of numerous tumors. His doctors have now recommended targeted therapy as the next course of action, which will cost RM150,000.
Jackie works as a real estate agent, relying on commissions for income. However, his mounting medical expenses have left him financially strained. His wife, 39-year-old, is also a real estate agent, earning between RM2,000 and RM4,000 monthly. The couple has an 8-year-old son.
Following a home assessment, ONE HOPE CHARITY & WELFARE has decided to assist Jackie by launching a fundraising campaign to cover his medical costs. His family has entrusted the foundation with full responsibility for managing the donations. Additionally, ONE HOPE CHARITY will allocate RM15,000 from its Emergency Medical Reserve Fund to support his treatment.
