Urgent Fundraising – Grace Lim Jia Hwey (B-cell Lymphoblastic Leukemia)

Description
9-year-old Grace Lim Jia Hwey was suddenly diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL). Despite undergoing a year and a half of chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant, the cancer has relapsed. Now, her only hope is to travel to Singapore as soon as possible for CAR-T therapy. However, the staggering medical cost of RM 1.2 million has left her ordinary family in despair.
This is a life-saving race against time. February 20 marks Grace’s 9th birthday, and on this day, she must depart for Singapore to be admitted for treatment. Any further delay could lead to a worsening of her condition, potentially missing the critical window for treatment. Her parents are pleading for the public’s help to save their beloved daughter’s life.
Grace, from Petaling Jaya, Selangor, began experiencing recurrent high fevers in November 2019. Initially thought to be a common childhood illness, a blood test revealed an abnormally high white blood cell count. After being diagnosed with B-ALL, she underwent a year and a half of chemotherapy, and her condition was once under control. Watching her pick up her school bag and step into the classroom, her parents thought they could finally return to a normal life.
At the beginning of 2023, the cancer relapsed. After receiving a bone marrow transplant from her 6-year-old brother, her body showed signs of recovery. However, at the end of the 100-day observation period post-transplant, the doctor delivered the devastating news: the cancer had returned.
Due to the two relapses, traditional therapies are no longer effective. The doctor stated that the only hope is to travel to Singapore for CAR-T therapy. This immunotherapy has the potential to completely eradicate the cancer cells, with a recovery rate as high as 80%.
【The fundraising is now in urgent phase. On her birthday (the 20th), Grace must begin her treatment in the hospital. Only if the required funds are raised can the life-saving treatment proceed smoothly】
Previously, the parents sought help through several charitable organizations and conducted their own fundraising efforts, but the amount raised is still far from sufficient. As a result, Grace’s treatment has been postponed twice. This is the third scheduled attempt, and the doctor has made it clear that there can be no further delays. Otherwise, the cancer cells may spread rapidly, and her condition could deteriorate to a point beyond recovery.
February 20 is Grace’s 9th birthday, but this day has become a countdown to her fate. Her wish is not for cake or gifts, but to recover quickly and return to school, where she can attend classes and play with her classmates.
Please lend a helping hand to ensure she can travel to Singapore for life-saving treatment. Let her 9th birthday mark the beginning of a new lease on life!
【Photos of Grace's Treatment Were Stolen for Scams; Family Now Entrusts One Hope Charity to Handle Fundraising】
Grace's parents had previously used various platforms to raise funds, but unfortunately, they encountered scammers who stole photos of their daughter to deceive others. In desperation, they reported the incident to the police and the Multimedia Commission. Now, they have ceased all private fundraising efforts and have entrusted the One Hope Charity to fully handle the fundraising for the necessary medical fees.
Grace Lim’s father, Jason Lim Jin Siang (45 years old), works as a sales supervisor at a computer company, and her mother, Seow Pei Chyn (42 years old), is a housewife. The couple also has a 7-year-old son.
One Hope Charity has decided to raise the RM1.2 million required for Grace's medical treatment, with the family agreeing to fully entrust the fundraising activity to One Hope Charity, which will also manage the collection of donations. One Hope Charity will allocate RM30,000 from the "Emergency Medical and Contigency Fund" to assist in this case.

【What is CAR-T Therapy?】
CAR-T cell therapy is an innovative, personalized immunotherapy and is regarded as one of the breakthroughs in cancer treatment.
This therapy involves extracting the patient's own T cells and genetically modifying them in a laboratory to equip them with chimeric antigen receptors (CAR). These receptors enable the T cells to precisely recognize and attack cancer cells. The enhanced CAR-T cells are then infused back into the patient's body, where they actively seek out and destroy cancer cells, improving treatment outcomes.
