Description

"I initially thought my child was being bullied due to the bruises on her arms and legs. After consulting her teacher and confirming it wasn't bullying, we took her to the hospital for a check-up and discovered she had leukemia. I was devastated and couldn't believe it. However, the doctor assured us that despite it being a rare form of leukemia, the cure rate is as high as 90%. Therefore, we are appealing to the public for help!"

Anis Humairah Binti Ahmad Ikhwan, a 14-year-old girl from Shah Alam, Selangor, had been healthy until last June. During a sports event, she experienced dizziness, which was initially dismissed. Over time, she began feeling increasingly fatigued, and by August, bruises appeared on her arms and legs, along with traces of blood on her mouth upon waking. Her mother initially thought it was gum bleeding, but as the symptoms persisted, she grew concerned.

Anis's mother took her to a clinic, where a blood test revealed a drastic drop in platelet count. Suspecting leukemia, the doctor referred them to a hospital for further tests. A bone marrow test confirmed that Anis had Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia (APML). The doctors promptly scheduled her for various stages of chemotherapy and recommended oral chemotherapy medication. Due to the high cost of treatment, her parents urgently seek to raise RM64,640 for the medication.

After undergoing several rounds of chemotherapy, the girl found that the medication was highly effective in controlling the cancer cells. Aside from common side effects such as hair loss, back pain, diarrhea, and osteoporosis, which required nutritional supplements, she did not experience severe discomfort. An avid reader with a particular interest in history books, her greatest sadness was being unable to attend school and having to study at home.

According to the doctor’s report, Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia (APML) is a rare form of blood cancer. Although it is a serious illness, the cure rate can reach up to 90%. The doctor recommended oral chemotherapy medication to inhibit the growth of cancer cells. However, the high cost of treatment has placed a heavy financial burden on her family.

Her father, Ahmad Ikhwan bin Abdul Ghani, 56, works as a market executive with a monthly salary of RM4,730, while her mother, Saidatul Hamameh bt Hussain, 53, is a housewife. The couple also has three other children aged 29, 25, and 22, some of whom are working while others are still studying.

The previous chemotherapy treatments have already depleted their savings, and they now face the challenge of covering an additional RM64,640 in medical expenses. Although they can only afford RM20,000 at present, they remain hopeful that the community will come forward to assist them.

After reviewing the case, the committee has decided to raise the necessary funds for the Anis Humairah’s medical. The parents have agreed to entrust the fundraising activities entirely to One Hope Charity, which will manage and receive the donations.
