Muhammad Hafizul bin Hashim (42), who has worked at the Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) for 14 years in the tree-felling department, was diagnosed with congenital deafness and muteness at birth. He started wearing hearing aids due to the requirements of his job. After his hearing aids broke, One Hope Charity provided him with a new pair, improving his quality of life.

Hailing from Kepala Batas, Penang, Muhammad Hafizul attended a special school in Penang from primary through high school. He has been working as a contract employee at the Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) for 14 years, responsible for tree-felling. Due to the dangerous nature of his work, he underwent a hearing test at the General Hospital in his second year of employment. The test revealed that he had residual hearing, allowing him to hear sounds with the help of hearing aids. The Social Welfare Department provided him with hearing aids for both ears. To increase his family’s income, he also drives a rideshare car on weekends.

He has been wearing hearing aids for over ten years and can now understand spoken language, though he still cannot speak. This ability to hear has enabled him to receive spoken instructions at work and to be aware of potential dangers in his work environment, allowing him to react promptly.

His wife also has congenital deafness and muteness and works in a factory. The couple has two children, aged 9 and 7, who attend a national primary school near their home. The family of four lives in a rural ancestral house, and they must also pay for their car loan and support his mother. When his hearing aids broke two years ago, he couldn't afford the high cost of replacement and personally sought assistance from One Hope Charity.

Upon receiving the request for assistance, One Hope Charity sent representatives to conduct a home visit. The board of directors decided to assist him with a pair of hearing aids, enabling him to continue hearing sounds and improving his quality of life.
