Fifteen-year-old Kang Guo Zhi from Johor has faced spinal issues since childhood. Several years ago, after removing a spinal tumor, he received support from One Hope Charity for a corrective brace, which he wore for many years, improving his scoliosis condition. However, as he is currently growing, his body has outgrown the previously fitted brace.

Due to his parents' inability to afford the RM4,000 needed for a new corrective brace, he has gone without one for six months. In April of this year, during a hospital check-up, he was informed that his scoliosis had worsened from 22 degrees to 28 degrees. The doctor emphasized the necessity of wearing the corrective brace to prevent further deterioration.

His father, Kang Tai Hock (59), is a farmer with an unstable income, while his mother, Hong Chek Hua (52), a housewife, suffers from hypertension, diabetes, and high cholesterol. High blood pressure caused a retinal hemorrhage, leading to blindness in one eye, and she also requires dialysis.

Struggling to make ends meet, they could not afford the new brace and sought help from One Hope Charity again.

Upon review, the One Hope Charity decided to assist with a custom-made corrective brace. Kang Guo Zhi and his family are grateful for this support, especially as it will help him straighten his back and prevent further progression of his scoliosis.
