Chinese-Indian mixed-race baby girl Teh Niharika was born in February last year to a family in a village in Taiping, Perak. Her father not only has to cover the living expenses for their family of four but also has to support his wife's family of three, making it difficult to make ends meet each month.

29-year-old father Teh Kok Leong is a motorcycle mechanic with a monthly salary of RM1500 to RM2300; 26-year-old mother Iyswarya A/P Vagendasalam was a store crew before marriage and is now a housewife. The couple also has a 2-year-old son.

The family of four lives at the mother’s parents’ home. The mother is an only child, so her parents and her 89-year-old grandmother also live under the same roof. Niharika’s grandpa was a rubber tapper in his younger years and is currently unable to walk, relying on his wife for care. The grandma has heart disease can’t help with lifting or caring for the grandchildren, and she also suffers from asthma. As a result, the mother can’t go to work and needs to personally take care of the two children.

The family of seven lives in a kampung house, with all expenses falling on the father’s shoulders. The family does not have a car, only a motorcycle for transportation, with a monthly payment of RM250. They are unable to make ends meet and have sought assistance from One Hope Charity.

Upon receiving the request for assistance, One Hope Charity sent representatives to conduct a home visit. The board of directors decided to provide assistance in the form of food supplies, diapers and milk powder for the children, to alleviate the burden on the father.
