The path to spinal correction surgery was fraught with challenges for 18-year-old Chong Xin Yi. After undergoing three spinal fluid drainage surgeries over two years, her condition stabilized, and she finally completed the spinal correction surgery successfully. Chong Xin Yi is now able to stand straight and has been discharged from the hospital. She is deeply grateful for the generous donations and well-wishes from the public.

Two years ago, Chong Xin Yi was diagnosed with a 51-degree scoliosis. However, the journey to correct her spine was not straightforward. An MRI revealed a syringomyelia in her cervicothoracic spine, necessitating referral to a neurosurgery department. The subsequent surgeries to drain the accumulated spinal fluid resolved this issue, allowing her to finally proceed with the spinal correction surgery and achieve a straight posture.

Hailing from Bukit Mertajam, Penang, Chong Xin Yi underwent three surgeries to drain the spinal fluid caused by her syringomyelia over the past two years. If left untreated, this condition would have made spinal correction surgery impossible and risked causing paralysis.

Chong Xin Yi's surgeries were performed by the neurosurgery department on January 20, 2022, September 14, 2022, and November 6, 2023. During this period, she faced complications such as wound infections and corneal damage, delaying the spinal correction surgery.

Two years later, with the spinal fluid issue resolved, she successfully underwent spinal correction surgery on May 8, 2024, and was discharged on May 11, 2024, to recover at home. After two months of rest, Chong Xin Yi plans to resume her studies and pursue her dreams without further hindrance.

Previously, our organization raised RM75,500, which was insufficient to cover the costs of the four surgeries. With an additional RM20,401.45 needed, we allocated this amount from the "Emergency Medical Reserve Fund" to cover Chong Xin Yi's medical expenses.
