【Medical Assistance - Ventilator and Oxygen Concentrator】A 6-year-old girl suffering from Type 2 spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) suddenly faced breathing problems. Unable to afford the equipment costs, her parents received assistance from our foundation, which provided RM32,750 for purchasing a ventilator and an oxygen concentrator.

A 6-year-old girl, Yu Jia Xuan, suffering from spinal muscular atrophy (SMA), urgently needs a ventilator and an oxygen concentrator to assist with breathing due to thick phlegm blocking her airway. Our foundation will allocate RM32,750 from the 'Emergency Medical Reserve Fund' to assist her parents in purchasing the equipment.

Since last July, Yu Jia Xuan has been receiving regular injections of medication specifically for treating SMA. Combined with regular physical therapy from her parents, her body has become more flexible, and she can lift her arms and legs, with her lower body gradually gaining some strength. Her parents are very pleased and grateful to see such progress in just six months.

Due to the high cost of living in the Selangor and the need to find a stable job, her parents moved back to Kuching, Sarawak, with Jia Xuan in January this year. However, at the end of February, her breathing was affected by thick phlegm blocking her airway for an extended period, and she was urgently admitted to the ICU.

After nearly two weeks of treatment, Jia Xuan's condition stabilized, but she needs to use a nebulizer and suction machine regularly, and a ventilator. Considering her need for long-term respiratory support, the hospital did not agree to discharge her without a bilevel positive airway pressure (BiPAP) machine at home.

Her father, Yu Kong Chai (41 years old), who had originally planned to start a small business, had to temporarily work as a laborer due to his only daughter's sudden health problem, sharing the caregiving responsibilities with her mother, Voon Jian Jian (36 years old).

Upon receiving the application, ONE HOPE CHARITY contact and understand the situation. The board ultimately decided to assist in purchasing the necessary equipment, allowing Jia Xuan to be discharged and receive the respiratory support she needs.
