【Medical Assistance – Replacing Pacemaker Batteries】A 5-year-old girl had a permanent heart pacemaker implanted when she was one and a half months old. Now, the pacemaker's battery has depleted and she urgently needs surgery to replace the battery. One Hope Charity is providing emergency assistance to save her life.

The little girl complained of chest pain, it was discovered that the battery of her pacemaker was depleted upon examination, needed an urgent surgery. One Hope Charity allocated RM25,000 from the “Emergency Medical Reserve Fund” for her urgent surgery to replace the pacemaker battery.

5-year-old girl, Goh Qiao Lin, from Air Itam, Penang, suffered from congenital heart disease since birth. She underwent heart surgery and had a permanent pacemaker implanted to sustain her life when she was one and a half months old. She complained of chest pain and was taken to the hospital for a check-up. The examination revealed that the battery of her pacemaker was depleted, putting her life at risk, and the battery needed to be replaced immediately.

Upon admission to the hospital, Qiao Lin underwent other examinations and had surgery to replace the battery the next day. She is out of danger due to the battery replacement surgery has been successfully completed and is recovering at home.

Her father is an ice delivery driver with a monthly salary around RM2000 to RM3000 and has five daughters aged between 5 and 20. Qiao Lin lives with her two sisters (aged 9 and 14), her 69-year-old grandmother and her father. The father also has to cover a monthly rent of RM600.

Upon receiving the request for assistance and learned that the surgery was extremely urgent, One Hope Charity immediately looked into the situation. Following the approval from the board of directors, RM25,000 was allocated from the “Emergency Medical Reserve Fund” for Qiao Lin to undergo surgery to replace the pacemaker battery and extend her life.
