【Medical Assistance-Surgery Costs】A 60-year-old man suffered a stroke and required urgent surgery. His wife tried to gather the necessary funds but fell short by RM15,000. One Hope Charity reviewed the case and provided the remaining amount needed for his surgery.

Mohamad Nadzri bin Zainol Abidin, who lives in Kepala Batas, Seberang Perai Utara, was having lunch with his son on June 4 when he suddenly became incoherent and collapsed. His son immediately called his mother, a nurse at a hospital.

His wife rushed to the scene and suspected a stroke, so she took him to the hospital. After examinations, it was confirmed that he had a cerebrovascular accident and needed a mechanical thrombectomy. The high cost of the surgery left the family in a desperate situation. His wife pawned her jewelry and borrowed money but was still short of the required amount, so they turned to One Hope Charity for the remaining RM15,000.

Since stroke cases need to be treated within a critical time window, we expedited the review and approval process, allowing Mohamad Nadzri to undergo surgery promptly.

Previously, Mohamad Nadzri was a laboratory assistant, managing diabetes and hypertension with medication. Nine years ago, he had to stop working due to kidney failure and has been on dialysis ever since, with costs covered by the Social Security Organization (SOCSO) and the Ministry of Health. In late May, he experienced seizures, blurred vision, and headaches. Despite seeing a doctor, no issues were detected until the stroke occurred.

As the required aid was less than RM20,000, we did not launch a public fundraising campaign. Instead, we utilized RM15,000 from "Emergency Medical Reserve Fund", supported by general donations, to cover the surgery costs immediately.
