Urgent Fundraising – Sittarth Muniandy (Heart Disease)
Description
After six years of marriage, a disabled father from Sungai Petani, Kedah, and his wife finally welcomed their first child, Sittarth Muniandy. However, their joy was clouded when their baby was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect, and he frequently suffers from cyanosis, causing his lips and nails to turn blue due to a lack of oxygen. This has left the parents in constant worry.
"Whenever the baby cries, his lips and nails turn blue. Although he's still so young, the doctors told us that surgery is urgently needed, or he won’t survive. We feel very anxious, but we have no choice—our baby needs immediate surgery. We sincerely appeal to the public for help to save our child."
Sittarth's mother had regular check-ups during her pregnancy, including two fetal heart scans, which did not reveal any abnormalities. The baby was born full-term, and everything seemed normal at first. However, four days after birth, he was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect. At three months old, Sittarth's oxygen levels dropped to 75%, and he underwent a heart stent procedure to temporarily alleviate the condition.
Now, Sittarth weighs 6 kg, meeting the requirement for corrective heart surgery. His parents are urgently seeking to raise RM80,000 to help him undergo this life-saving operation and preserve his young life.
【Whenever the baby cries or moves excessively, he experiences cyanosis, oxygen deprivation, and shortness of breath. To ensure that oxygen can circulate throughout his body, the mother has to curl his arms and legs in a specific position】
Shortly after Sittarth was born full-term, he was referred to the hospital for further examination due to a heart murmur detected during a jaundice check at a government clinic. Upon detailed investigation, doctors discovered his oxygen saturation and antibody levels had dropped, leading to a three-week hospital stay where he relied on breathing support to survive.
During his stay, Sittarth was transferred to the central hospital, where further tests diagnosed him with Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF), along with two holes in his heart and vascular malposition. Doctors informed the parents that the baby would only be eligible for corrective surgery once he reached a weight of 6 to 8 kg.
However, when Sittarth was three months old, his condition worsened suddenly, and his oxygen saturation dropped to 75%. To temporarily relieve his symptoms, doctors performed an emergency pulmonary valve and right ventricular outflow tract (RVOT) widening surgery. Unfortunately, this procedure would only extend his life for six months at most, and only a full corrective heart surgery could truly save his life.
The parents were shocked and helpless upon hearing the diagnosis. After waiting six years for their first child, the emotional weight was overwhelming, especially knowing their young son had to face such a life-threatening surgery at such a tender age. Without timely surgery, Sittarth's life would be at great risk, and the family was unable to bear the RM80,000 surgery cost.
Sittarth's father, Muniandy A/L Soundarajan (33), suffers from cerebral palsy, which has caused leg atrophy. Despite his limited mobility, he is self-sufficient and works as a government employee with a monthly salary of RM2,253. His mother, Sangkhary A/P Shamugam (33), was a former bank employee, but she resigned after childbirth to care for Sittarth and her cancer-stricken mother.
After conducting a home visit and assessment, One Hope Charity decided to launch a fundraising campaign to cover Sittarth Muniandy's medical expenses. The family has entrusted One Hope Charity to manage the fundraising, and One Hope Charity will oversee all donations on their behalf. To kickstart the initiative, One Hope Charity will allocate RM5,000 from its "Emergency Medical Reserve Fund" to support the cause.
